Adding Space to Your Home

Adding Space to Your Home

In many towns and cities, space is at a premium. As such, it’s something we all want plenty of, but there’s not always the option to expand.

Adding space to your home with Marlow Building need not be about increasing the square footage though. There are plenty of ways to make your living space feel more spacious, without buying more land or going without tons of outdoor garden.

Building alterations that can be done

There are many ways to create added space in your home and here are some ways to do it with a relatively minimal amount of building work necessary:

  • Add parking
  • Convert garage
  • Convert attic
  • Add a conservatory
  • Side return
  • Knockdown dividing walls

These kind of building alterations will not only give you extra room but could very well add value to your home if there comes a time to sell. An unused garage, for example, could become a more updated bathroom than the one upstairs, an office, mudroom, utility/shower room, or simply an extra living space or playroom.

All of these extra spaces may seem more attractive to potential buyers, depending on factors, such as whether you have a driveway, or there are plenty of parking spaces on the road. Even if you’re not looking to sell, but your family is growing, it’s a great way to make use of any space that you don’t really use.

Organising space better

In addition to making extra room by doing some of the above, a great way to add space to your home is to get it organised. Clear out any clutter that you don’t need. By spending a few days going through everything and moving stuff on to charity shops, friends in need, or even the tip, you can make a whole load of space by removing items that were simply gathering dust.

Once the unwanted bits and bobs have gone, then look at the layout of your home. Could your furniture be moved around in a better way to add more space? Try different layouts and cutting down on the furniture that has been crammed into a particular room.

Also, look at the way your home is decorated. You might be amazed to discover how lighter shades of paint, different lighting concepts, or alternative forms of flooring can make a space feel so much bigger.
